WITH bowls just around the corner the Wagin Bowling Club is beginning to send travelling teams out to challenge the best of the West.
On Saturday, August 2 the side of Steve Trowl (skipper), Denny Dunham (third), Bernie Welland (second) and Phil Harris (lead) ventured into the Upper Great Southern League to play in the prestigious Pingelly winter fours carnival.
The competition was full and the conditions were tough, however when the last bowl came to rest only the Wagin team stood undefeated, winning the carnival with three wins plus 42 aggregate.
Congratulations to Bernie Welland on his first carnival win.
Steve Trowl has won this event back to back with different teams.
On Saturday, September 13 and Sunday, September 14 the Wagin Bowling Club is holding the first annual Golden Ram Carnival.
Prize money tops $6000 and 100 men and as many spectators are coming from all over the country to this new annual country event.
The band K-9 Out will be performing on Saturday, September 13 at the club.
The Wagin Bowling Club has recently obtained its second synthetic bowls’ green and besides securing the tournament, Wagin will be playing host to both the men’s and women’s Great Southern League events this year.
