THE Upper Great Southern Hockey Association would like to acknowledge the efforts of junior players who have been selected in the Western Australian under 15 state hockey teams.
In the girls’ side is Chloe Buzza, who was selected after competing in this year’s regional competition, then made her way into a squad of 29 then the final 16 players were selected from this squad.
Chloe now has training every Friday afternoon from 4pm-5pm, then again on Saturday morning from 6.45am 8am.
These training sessions are held at the UWA turf. The girls’ team will be travelling to Newcastle in NSW from October 2-11.
The boys selected were Dane Angwin and Craig Gambrell. Both these boys played in the regionals competition from which a squad of 32 was selected.
From this it was cut to 20 and the final trial was held in Narrogin last weekend.
Thomas Bairstow was selected as a train-on to this team and will attend all trainings.
The boys now train Tuesday night from 5pm-6pm then every Saturday from 7am-9am at the Perth Hockey Stadium.
The boy’s team will travel to Canberra on October 2-11.
This is a big commitment by these players as not only is there lots of travelling but they have to give up some of their local hockey games.
The association wishes them all the best in their pursuit of one day playing at the Olympics.
