Sneakyn in for a win

THE talented Sneakyn Down Under took advantage of a slightly better barrier draw than main rival Mister Odds On to lead throughout in the John Higgins Memorial final at Gloucester Park last Friday night.

Driven by Chris Lewis for trainer Darren Duffy, the five-year-old beat Mister Odds On by nine metres in super fast time with 10 metres to third horse Albercross and On A Wing And A Prayer a further eight metres back in fourth.

The effort of the runner-up was good as he is only a three-year-old and it will be no surprise if the first two placed pacers become WA Pacing Cup chances next season.

Shane Butterworth earlier drove The Perfect Print in a race for three-year-olds and the Tracey Reed trained gelding ran his usual honest race to pick up fourth prize money.

Stable mate Lightning Jake driven by Stephen Reed missed a place in the fast class event, however a poor barrier draw and the way the race was run did not help his chances.

Reed may start the tough 10-year-old in the $25,000 2008 Marathon Handicap over 3309 metres at the Fremantle Harness Racing Club meeting at the track on Friday night as the gelding will be better suited by the long race distance and the discretionary handicap conditions of the event.

Dollars Go was responsible for an impressive Bunbury win early last week for Narrogin owner, trainer Neville Thornton.

The four-year-old mare appeared to face a tough task from barrier three outside the back line, however Shane Butterworth drove well to overcome this and she finished fast to record her third career win.

Despite finishing third at her previous two starts against good opposition Dollars Go paid $17.40 for a win, $3.20 a place which was great value.

She was bred by Thornton and is by the Albany owned sire Rich and Spoilt therefore is well-named.

Azerbaisan, by Wagin sire Armbro Intercept, recorded his third straight win at Pinjarra last week and his career record is 12 wins, 26 places from 82 starts.
