Seven meets for Wagin club

21/08/2008 4:54:00 PM
WAGIN Harness Racing Club has been allocated seven Friday night meetings by Racing and Wagering Western Australia for the 2008/2009 season that commences next month.

The first meeting of the season on Friday, December 19 will be a special one for the club as the feature event is the 2008 Wagin Cup.

RWWA has put up $10,000 stake money for the big race and the club is hoping to increase this through sponsorship.

Friday night meetings proved popular last season with good nominations and betting turnover.

On course punters can bet on all the other meetings around Australia that night and watch the races live on Sky Channel.

Betting on the Gloucester Park meeting is the main focus and ensures on course turnover on Friday night meetings is higher than a Saturday night.

A highlight of Wagin meetings for owners, trainers and drivers has been the great prizes for the annual awards run by the club, which are sure to come up with similar incentives for the coming season.

The first meeting in the Great Southern is at the Narrogin Paceway on Tuesday, September 30 where there is an eight event program and stake money of $5600 for each race is a slight increase on the present season allocation.

A highlight of the Narrogin Harness Racing season is the 2008 Narrogin Pacing Cup on December 12 and stake money of $30,000 will ensure a top field.

Kinney Prince did best of the locally trained or owned pacers racing last week, finishing fourth at Gloucester Park last Saturday night.

The Tracey Reed trained Lightning Jake was not disgraced in the feature event at the track Friday night and only needs a good barrier draw to be a winning chance at his next race.
