THE inaugural Wagin Woolorama rodeo, staged by the National Rodeo Council, attracted over 3000 people, swelling the Saturday attendance at Woolorama.
Staged by the West Australia division of the NRC, this exciting event was a crowd thriller.
People poured into the temporary arena on the showgrounds to gain vantage points to view the exhilarating show.
The compere stirred the crowd while accompanying Country and Western music blared through the speakers.
It was hot and dusty, the dirt was flying, the thundering hooves of horses hammered past the spectators, on edge to the thrills and spills of the cowboys riding bucking broncos and stroppy bulls.
A former Rodeo Queen and promotions officer for the NRC, Jo Kestel said they are always looking for new venues to stage rodeos due to the popularity of the spectator sport.
Crowned Rodeo Queen last New Year’s Eve, Gaynor Dalle-Nogare, together with Ms Kestel led a team of eight girls on horse-back, the flag bearers to officially open the rodeo.
Locals had the opportunity to participate on horse-back in the barrel-races, while small children were helped by rodeo clowns to cling on to the mutton-busters.
Cowboys endeavoured to ride bucking broncos, but it was the bull-riding which enthralled the crowd.
Due to the success of the show it is anticipated it will become an annual event at Woolorama.
